I kinda feel bad as I like most of the people I work with now, but I know that I’m currently grossly underpaid and every time that I ask for more training it gets ignored or I’ll get a, “Yes, we’ll make this happen this year.” and 6 years latter it doesn’t happen.

Man I know that feel. I am on the schedule for the first professional development in nearly 9 years coming up ... It’s probably going to get cancled thanks to death cold 19. Applied for a job in very qualified for, in the same company but with more growth and I got turned away by auto hr because they know how much I made and its more than they wanted to pay.

It’s tough - I’ve been having the same conversations with management for 3 years about issues in the department.
I’ve applied to a couple jobs and had interviews that went well. Waiting on feedback now - it’s agonizing!
God luck with your job hunt though! If you're in IT and looking in STL I can probably help, but that's all I got

man, fuck em. if they’ve stalled you out, its time to go. I just went though that. I was begging to get Revit and my boss ept saying no. I even said I’d take clases on my own and he still said no, I left and I’m liking this place much more. you’ll meet people at your next job and you’ll like them, dont worry about your co-workers. Maybe you can recruit one or two in the company keeps hiring.

I was in a similar situation with my last job. I liked my coworkers, but there was nowhere for me to go. It felt good that the man in charge told me how much he liked and appreciated me, but that only went so far.
Now I’m somewhere that the praise is followed up with raises and a damn fine bonus. Attaboys are nice, but they only go so far.

I know where you’re coming from. My employer hasn’t paid for any additional training for 13 years. They did me a favor and let me go to a couple of local conferences while on the clock, but for the bigger ones, I’ve had to take vacation and pay for the trip myself.
I have one professional certification that requires ongoing education and I was worried that I wouldn’t meet the minimum this year. It was close.
Good luck in your job search. I’m sure you’ll knock it out of the park!

Best way to get a big raise is to go work somewhere else. Best of luck!

I can relate to some of that. I was in a long-term position at the university in a job I loved and colleagues I adored, but the pay wasn’t there, there wasn’t a way to fix that and there wasn’t really a further path to bigger and better things. I probably waited a year or two too long to finally starting looking for something else, but I landed in a great job that I couldn’t have ever predicted.
The hardest part was making the decision to start looking, which was the act of making the decision to myself that I was going to leave the library. It was necessary to detach a bit emotionally from the job first.
Weather you get this job or some other one later in the search, you’ve probably done the hardest part in making the decision to leave.

Yeah, the raise I got was shit and I didn’t want to sound like a greedy prick and ask for more.

My raise was a bit less than I’d hoped, but it was still decent. That a byproduct though of having HR set a raise budget that makes it impossible for anyone to get close to the supposed max potential.
My boss did negotiate forfeiting a portion of his bonus to give his 5 employees more than we were supposed to get.
I’ve gotten 2 job offers in the last week and a half, but I’m not going anywhere.
